Wisdom Teeth
Persistent lip, chin, and/or tongue numbness and/or burning pain may occur after extraction of wisdom teeth. If the roots of your lower wisdom teeth are close to the underlying mandibular (jaw) nerve or lingual (tongue) nerve, these nerves may be damaged or injured during extraction. Therefore, if nerve injury occurs, it is important to promptly consult an oral surgeon who specializes in nerve repair surgery. Ask your referral attorney, or your general dentist if you do not have an attorney, for the name and contact information of an oral surgeon near you. If you are insured by Kaiser, certain Kaiser oral surgeons have been designated to perform nerve repair surgery at select Kaiser facilities.
